Leading case for the rights of patients RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

Visit to COVID-19 patients have been authorized

The Justice system of Tierra del Fuego, a province in the extreme south of Argentina, authorized the on-site presence of a person to be with a woman hospitalized with coronavirus, as soon as she is out of the intensive care area, sources reported.

This COVID patient's condition is serious, and courts hadn't allowed her to be accompanied in hospital by her husband. This case is part of the debate ongoing worldwide about the right of coronavirus patients to have a loved one near them, in the same room, and not just digital contact.

The woman is in hospital since September 30. Her husband filed a request for an injunction, demanding to be allowed to see his partner. He based his claim on a provincial law of Tierra del Fuego which created a "protocol for humane assistance" to seriously-ill COVID-19 patients. The husband's legal representation also cited a decree signed by president Alberto Fernández, granting the same right.

Health officials clarified in turn, that the woman has the chance to receive daily calls from relatives. Now, once she is transferred to a lower-complexity area as her condition improves, she'll be able to see her husband too.
