Dictatorship-era HHRR violations RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

Life sentences for Campo de Mayo crimes

The Argentine justice system convicted 19 former military personnel for human rights violations committed at Campo de Mayo.

This barracks on the outskirts of Buenos Aires was the largest concentration camp of the Argentine Army during the last dictatorship.

For the Federal Oral Court of San Martin, the facts judged are crimes against humanity and are therefore imprescriptible, despite the fact that they occurred more than 40 years ago.

Those convicted are former members of the Army, the Navy, the Gendarmerie and the Buenos Aires Police.

Of the 19 defendants, 10 were sentenced to life imprisonment, among them former General Omar Riveros, then commander of Campo de Mayo.

They were tried for illegal deprivation of liberty, torture, homicide and sexual abuse to the detriment of almost 350 victims.

According to the prosecution, 6000 thousand detainees passed through Campo de Mayo, of which only 1% survived.
