Former President Correa denounced a "coup" in Ecuador against his candidate

The former leader deemed as a "Coup" the request of the Ecuadorian Attorney General's Office to remove computers from the National Electoral Council to have them analyzed by experts. Meanwhile, his candidate Andres Arauz, who won the first round of the election last February 7, said the move was tantamount to "a gross violation of the law" whose goal is to delay the election's decisive stage.

Arauz said this Sunday in a press conference that Ecuadorians will not accept "an extension of incumbent president Lenin Moreno's term...the run-off must be held on April 11 without fail".

The counting of votes went on for the last two weeks amid exchanged accusations of fraud between center-right Guillermo Lasso and native peoples activist Yaku Perez, who competed with each other to win the second place and thus move forward to face Mr. Araúz at the April 11 ballotage.
