85 years, suffers from tongue cancer RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

Perú High Court orders Fujimori be released

In Peru, the Constitutional Court ordered the release of former president Alberto Fujimori, imprisoned for crimes against humanity.

The magistrates reinstated a pardon for humanitarian reasons that benefited him in 2017 and was revoked in 2019.

Fujimori is 85 years old and suffers from several health problems, including cancer of the tongue.

Although the Inter-American Court of Human Rights had requested that he not be released, Peruvian judges consider that this entity did not have jurisdiction in the case.

The former president, who governed between 1990 and 2000, was sentenced for massacres committed at the beginning of his administration, in the framework of the fight against the guerrilla.

After this week's ruling, victims' families and human rights groups repudiated Fujimori's release.
