In Colombia, the truce between the government and the guerrilla group ELN, Ejército de Liberación Nacional (National Liberation Army) came into effect.
Both sides confirmed the cessation of hostilities on Thursday 6 July.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro signed a decree ordering armed forces to suspend action against the rebels.
The ceasefire, which will be monitored by the United Nations, was negotiated for months in Havana by government and ELN representatives.
The truce aims to encourage dialogue in pursuit of a lasting peace agreement.
To that end, parties will meet again in the Cuban capital on 14 August.
The negotiations with the insurgents are part of Petro's plan for "total peace" in the South American country.
The leftist leader seeks to replicate with the ELN the 2016 agreement that led to the disarmament of Colombia's once largest guerrilla group, the FARC.
