Roger Waters: for the poor who die of COVID in Argentina

The city of Buenos Aires, which has the highest per capita income in the whole country, is at the same time home to some 20 villas or "socially-vulnerable neighbourhoods" where living conditions are not ideal in terms of an inclusive democracy. Although in many of them urbanization and "environmental integration" tasks were carried out, the truth is that there are sectors where basic conditions such as access to water, sewage, and housing without overcrowding are not the norm.

It was in this context that last May 17 the leader of social organization La Garganta Poderosa, Ramona Medina, died after contracting coronavirus. Few days before passing away, she had denounced the lack of running water in Villa 31 neighborhood, that had been going on for weeks in that area of the Capital.

It's worth remembering that Argentina's poor neighborhoods are the most exposed to contagion, due to the overcrowding and unhealthy living conditions .

The former Pink Floyd bassist played a rendition of We Shall Overcome, an anthem in the struggle for civil rights in the U.S. back in the 1960s, to honor Ramona, a woman who became the face of the drama for those living in "those socially-vulnerable neighborhoods".
