Crimes against humanity taken to the Courts

Once the Defense statement was over, the proceedings entered the final phase for the 17 accused, and the turn came for the Attorneys’ statement and the ongoing prosecutions.

The last day of statement hearings included the removal of the plaintiff representing the 6 people accused, lawyer and navy man Alfredo Solari, due to a certain attitude that the victims’ families and other lawyers considered “a dilatory maneuver”.

Judges Daniel Obligado, Germán Castelli and  Ricardo Farías, urged the accused to appoint a new legal representative or accept the Court lawyer since the trial can not continue otherwise on the grounds of absence of necessary guarantees.

Solari was the legal attorney of Ricardo Cavallo, Raúl Scheller, Juan Carlos Rolón, Néstor Savio, Pablo García Velazco and Alberto González, and days ago he stated that State Terrorism was “hardly a political label” since society pays the military “to hill”.

This case is about the kidnapping, disappearance and murder of the first group of Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, together with French nuns Alice Domon and Leonie Duquet, and writer and journalist Rodolfo Walsh.

The same proceeding also hears the cases of  Alfredo Astiz, José Antonio Montes Manuel García Tallada, Jorge “the Tiger” Acosta, and Jorge Radice.

Miguel Donda, Antonio Pernías, Carlos Capdevilla, Juan Antonio Azic, Ernesto Weber and Juan Carlos Fotea, pleaded non guilty and being acquitted.

During the statement, the Court Attorney requested life sentence for Astiz, Acosta, Cavallo, Radice, Rolón, Pernías, García Velazco, Coronel, Donda, Scheller, Fotea, Savio and González. Moreover, he requested 25-year sentence for Montes, García Tallada, Capdevilla and Azic.
